Incident Safety Officer

About this event

Fire Department Incident Safety Officer (ISO) is an OSFM certification course developed to assist those who are assigned this important and required emergency scene safety position. The course will help students acquire the technical and tactical knowledge required for this important leadership assignment. Those attending this course should have the goal to acquire knowledge, skills, ability, education, and desire current and contemporary training in the many responsibilities of this position.

Prerequisite for OSFM ISO certification is Current certification as Company Fire Officer.

ISO is a co-requisite to obtain both the OSFM Advanced Fire Officer (AdFO) and Fire Dept. Safety Officer Certifications.

Specific Course Topics Include:

• Roles and Responsibilities

• Modern Concepts of Emergency Scene Safety

• Risk Management and Mitigation

• Guiding Laws, Regulations and Standards in Today's Fire Service

• Reading Buildings, Smoke, Risk, Hazardous Energy

• Pre- and Post-Incident, Training Safety

• Designing an Incident Safety Officer System

• Working With the Incident Commander to Increase Firefighter Safety and Survival

• A Systematic approach to the ISO Role at Emergency Scenes

• The ISO at Structure Fires, Wildland, Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue Incidents

• After Action Reviews, Post incident Responsibilities, Accident Investigations

• In-Class ISO Applications and review of your department’s safety program

• This Course meets and exceeds the qualifications identified in NFPA 1521.

ISO is an Office of the State Fire Marshal Certification Course Students will individually sign up to take the OSFM Exam through the OSFM Portal upon completion of class. Electronic Textbook/ On-Line JB Navigate Learning Management System provided as part of class registration fee.
