Good morning, Bloomington.

Bloomington soldier PFC Robert Lee Bryant’s remains—identified after over 80 years—will be returned for burial on April 12 at 1 p.m. at Park Hill Cemetery.

Family members, including his great-nephew Austin Dillow from Fort Riley, will escort his remains home.

The city of Bloomington held a housing fair on Wednesday at Eastland Mall where vendors provided services to help residents secure safe housing—resources ranged from home buying and renting to rehabilitation and support for the unhoused.

The event connected people with local groups such as Home Sweet Home Ministries, veterans services, education, and the Salvation Army.

A 28-year-old man was struck and killed by a pickup truck on I-55 near Shirley yesterday at 10:53 a.m.—his death is under investigation by McLean County coroner Kathy Yoder and Illinois State Police.

On Thursday, World Happiness Day saw WGLT travel around McLean County to ask people what makes them happy — recording reactions at Olympia Middle School in Stanford and near Uptown Normal.

The team noted a range of responses from students and residents — sharing moments of joy and pride in the local community.

Bloomington mayoral hopefuls include incumbent Mayor Mboka Mwilambwe, council member Cody Hendricks, and former state Rep. Dan Brady who are discussing a shrinking budget and a nearly $6 million deficit ahead of the April 1 election.

Mwilambwe said planned capital projects like a $400 million water system upgrade and the downtown streetscape will continue as funds become available — while other candidates advocate delaying and merging projects to cut costs.
