- ➤ The Atchison on Morrissey Drive changed hands in August when Phillip Cade—an executive chef at Illinois State University—and investors rebranded the venue with a train theme. It hosted its first event in October and will offer weddings, concerts next month, a Kentucky Derby party in early May, and wrestling matches on July 19 in an 8,000 square foot space that holds up to 500 guests. - ➤ Local museum staff and artist Troy Freeman are planning a 42-by-25-foot mural to honor Lincoln's Lost Speech on the side of Rosie's Pub at 106 E. Front St. The mural will be dedicated on May 29 and the museum holds a mural coloring contest with entries due by March 31 in the run-up to the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. - ➤ On Tuesday, March 18, ISU’s new vice president for finance and planning, Glen Nelson, spoke with The Pantagraph about a new budgeting process and financial strategies to fix a seven point one million dollar deficit in unrestricted funds. - ➤ In 2021, Illinois created the Mahomet Aquifer Council to advise on protecting the aquifer that serves more than 500,000 people but it has not met due to a lack of the required quorum—only 13 of the 25 seats have been filled. State lawmakers now must consider new carbon sequestration bans without the council’s guidance while local officials rely on the Mahomet Aquifer Consortium for advice. The Pantagraph
