  • Normal police warn local residents about a scammer who is spoofing local law enforcement phone numbers to claim an arrest warrant for missed jury duty (by sharing personal details and requesting payment via gift cards or Bitcoin) and advise anyone contacted to hang up and call the police directly.  Central Illinois Proud

  • Filmmaker Jason Lindsey of Mahomet produced a short film, It’s Time, that shows how climate change threatens a centuries-old maple syrup making process he began during the pandemic. The four-minute film—created over three years using footage of his wife making syrup—won best in show at the Bensonville Short Film Festival.  WGLT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lead-based paint is still a risk in older homes since its ban in 1978—almost every ZIP code in McLean County is high risk because peeling or damaged paint can be harmful. In Bloomington, city officials say their HUD-funded program to remove lead paint has low participation and they are pushing for an extension or other funds to keep homes safe.  WGLT
