COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Eastern Illinois food bank said it will end its Foodmobile distribution in Bloomington-Normal to focus on rural areas that lack grocery stores—food pantries have served twice as many people as in 2022. The final drop at Normal Community West High School is set for Saturday, June 14.  Central Illinois Proud
  • On Saturday, April 12, a procession honoring Pfc. Robert Bryant made its way down South Morris Avenue in Bloomington. Bryant was killed in action while serving in World War II—declared unrecoverable.  The Pantagraph
  • Faith in Action announced the winners of its inaugural 20 Over 60 Awards who were chosen by the public for their work in the community and their professions. They will be honored at a cocktail party on April 29 — at Rob Dob’s Restaurant and Bar in Bloomington.  The Pantagraph
  • McLean County first responders mourn firefighter Ethan Jeffreys from Gridley, 23, who died after battling cancer — his loss has deeply affected his colleagues and the local community.  The Pantagraph

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four local students were awarded 2025 Illinois Symphony Orchestra private lesson scholarships after winning the audition held by the Illinois Symphony Orchestra Guild of Bloomington-Normal. Their lessons will begin soon as part of the program.  The Pantagraph
  • Heartland College's honors program will host an Illinois Prison Project panel titled 'From Cell-2-Self: Psychological Transitions in Post-Prison Life' from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. April 17 + it will take place at the Astroth Community Education Center Auditorium.  The Pantagraph
  • Illinois Wesleyan University students formed a new registered organization to provide translation services for Bloomington District 87 students and families. The club, composed of 29 multilingual students fluent in 23 languages, works with the district to bridge language gaps in school communications (which benefits nearly 800 students with non-English homes).  The Pantagraph

HEALTH NEWS

  • The USDA issued a public health alert warning that some popular soup and bowl products may be contaminated with wood after a cilantro recall. FSIS said the items were shipped to retail and institutional locations in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio—consumers should dispose of or return any affected products.  Central Illinois Proud
