- ➤ In Peoria, local Catholics welcomed the election of Chicago native Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV, marking the first time an American has led the church in 2000 years. Bishop Louis Tylka said the diocese pledged support for the new pontiff and celebrated the news during a noon mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. WJBC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bloomington residents received a packet saying their water service line may be lead, galvanized, or unknown as required by the IEPA. The City will give more details soon and begin a free replacement program from the street to the home—set to start in 2026— to upgrade water safety. Cities 92.9
- ➤ Gov. JB Pritzker signed an executive order on Wednesday that bars state agencies from sharing autism data with the federal government unless it is medically or legally required—he issued the order after a federal move to create a national autism database that raised privacy concerns—and the directive requires strict privacy measures to protect individuals. - ➤ Normal’s Planning Commission unanimously approved three proposals for a new housing development on a 19.5 acre site—limiting some structures to two stories to address neighborhood concerns raised during a public hearing on May 8th. The decision now advises the town council, and developers Young America Realty and Worthington LLC plan to offer single-family homes and apartments while local residents worry about privacy and increased traffic. 25 News Now
