ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out in a converted two-story home on East Grove Street on May 12th at 11:32 a.m., displacing two residents while a firefighter suffered from heat exhaustion—firefighters confirmed no one was left inside and called in extra crews due to safety risks.  WJBC

CRIME NEWS

  • Normal police are seeking help finding Anita Fuller—a 14-year-old girl last seen at 8:30 a.m. on Monday in Normal—who has black hair and is about 5 feet 3 inches tall and urge anyone with information to call 309-888-5030.  Central Illinois Proud

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Illinois Wesleyan University updated its demonstration guidelines to balance free speech and civil discourse after a complaint of alleged antisemitism was filed with the Department of Education—officials say the new policies now cover peaceful rallies, campus posters and external speakers.  WGLT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Normal Police Department is urging drivers to buckle up as it launches the 'Click It or Ticket' campaign from May 16 to May 27 — officers will patrol day and night to check for unbelted passengers. The campaign builds on past efforts that raised seat belt use from 15.9% in 1985 to 92.4% today and aims to reduce fatal crashes.  Cities 92.9
  • Bloomington City Council approved a resolution Monday night to support selling the transit property at Main Street and Oakland Ave to Home Sweet Home Ministries—allowing development of The Bridge, a shelter village with 48 cabins and a community building. The project is estimated to cost $2.65 million with about $1 million in annual operations and will soon enter sale price negotiations—according to city officials.  WGLT
