- ➤ Today, Jazz UpFront in Bloomington is celebrating 10 years in business with special nightly performances until Saturday—owner James Gaston and his wife Linda say the club has hosted well-known artists and supports live performances of all music styles; the venue also runs the annual Front Street Music Festival set for mid-August. - ➤ Illinois House lawmakers passed a bill that would require police applicants to submit detailed past employment records—such as fitness evaluations and background checks—to strengthen the hiring process, and the measure now moves to Gov. Pritzker’s desk for approval. The move follows the July 2024 killing of Sonya Massey and aims to build trust between law enforcement and communities. WGLT
