Illinois House lawmakers passed a bill that would require police applicants to submit detailed past employment records—such as fitness evaluations and background checks—to strengthen the hiring process, and the measure now moves to Gov. Pritzker’s desk for approval.

The move follows the July 2024 killing of Sonya Massey and aims to build trust between law enforcement and communities.
