CRIME NEWS

  • A LeRoy man has been jailed for allegedly breaking a woman's ribs (accused of kicking her in the chest with a steel-toe boot).  The Pantagraph

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Children's Discovery Museum received a $500,000 gift from Compeer Financial to support its upcoming exhibit From the Farm to a Healthy Me — which will show kids how farms help make healthy food.  The Pantagraph

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bloomington District 87 and McLean County Unit 5 have announced that over a dozen school sites around Bloomington-Normal will offer free lunch during summer break—five of which will also serve breakfast—and kids 18 and under will receive meals at no cost.  The Pantagraph

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Sen. Dave Koehler said that a tough spring session ended with passage of Illinois' $55 billion budget despite a $3 billion gap and worries over losing federal funds. He worked on bills such as a law to stop drug price tricks and one that lets the Bloomington-Normal Water Reclamation District sell treated wastewater — steps aimed at protecting local health and water supplies.  WGLT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Canadian wildfire smoke caused unhealthy air in Bloomington-Normal, and the Ecology Action Center in Normal advised residents to stay indoors—especially those at risk of breathing problems. The air quality index reached 156 at a monitor on southwest Bloomington and was expected to improve by midnight.  WGLT
