- ➤ Miller Park Zoo at 1020 S. Morris Avenue will celebrate its 134th birthday on Saturday, June 14 from noon to 3 p.m.—the celebration will feature a party for local families—and the event aims to highlight the zoo’s long history. The Pantagraph
- ➤ On Monday night, over 60 Texas 4,000 riders from the University of Texas rested at Bloomington’s Salvation Army during their 70-day, 4,000-mile bike ride to raise money for cancer research. The group (on day 26 of their ride) slept in provided sleeping bags (with food and drinks) before leaving Bloomington this morning to head north. WGLT

- ➤ Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois announced it is merging with Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana to serve 61 counties (21 from Central Illinois and 40 from Indiana) and expand programs in health, education, housing, and jobs. CEO Don E. Johnson plans to retire in August and will help with the transition as a consultant. WJBC

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City Council took no action on a proposed ordinance to change rules for massage parlors and sexual businesses during Monday’s meeting; the measure aimed to fight sex trafficking through fees and employee listings. Some councilmembers tabled the proposal—giving staff until June 23 to rework language—after massage therapists raised concerns over unfair fees and misleading categorizations. Central Illinois Proud
- ➤ The state of Illinois has partnered with Rush University Medical Center and Lurie Children’s Hospital to treat high-consequence pathogens — Rush will receive $900,000 while Lurie Children’s is set to get $600,000 in state funding. FanDuel in Illinois will add a $0.50 fee per wager starting Sept. 1 following a new transaction fee on July 1, and the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association inducted new members into its Hall of Fame — recognizing items such as Kraft Mac & Cheese and the Tootsie Roll.
