  • Bloomington Public Library’s outdoor concert series returns this summer with free live music by local musicians; a June 11 concert with The Rusty Pickups was held, and upcoming concerts will be on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. — the series, part of the Summer Reading Program running through July 28, also features shows on June 25 with Kate Herald, July 16 with The Amplifiers and The Empty Set, July 23 with Davenport, Dish and Mish, and July 30 with Kevin and Cassie Hart and Friends.  The Pantagraph

CRIME NEWS

  • Bloomington police investigated a report of multiple gunshots on the 2300 block of Rainbow Avenue at 2:30 a.m. on June 11—no injuries or property damage were reported.  WJBC
  • Bloomington police investigated early morning shots fired on the 2300 block of Rainbow Avenue on June 11 - officers arrived at about 2:30 a.m. after multiple callers reported gunshots, and no injuries or property damage were found.  Central Illinois Proud

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sim Sandhu, who attended Heartland Community College from 2013 to 2014, was named Community College Distinguished Alumni by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association. He works as director of strategy and innovation at the Illinois Farm Bureau and sits on the college’s Foundation Board while helping students with scholarships in agriculture — his award honors his work for the Bloomington-Normal community.  WGLT
  • Illinois State University is looking for a vendor to develop a 10-year plan for campus housing and dining to help with crowded dorms from last fall's record enrollment. The project will use three phases to study current spaces and the deadline was extended from June 10 to June 18 — vendors must submit their bids by then.  WGLT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A property tax error in McLean County reduced bills for Ridgeview and Olympia school districts, and officials warned the mistake could affect their future financial planning. Certified letters were sent on June 4 and corrected bills will arrive this week with extra tax added to the second installment—giving taxpayers an extra 30 days to avoid penalties.  Cities 92.9
