- ➤ After more than a year of closure, Normal Public Library reopened today at 206 W. College Ave after a $6.5 million renovation that updated its shelves, restrooms, and community spaces including a new Tinker Studio and a refreshed Children’s Discovery Room — the project also removed asbestos and improved ADA access. Library Director John Fischer said the updates help meet community needs as patrons return to the library — preserving its familiar warm feel. Central Illinois Proud
- ➤ Early Saturday, hundreds of customers lost power as strong storms swept through McLean County—Ameren Illinois reported nearly 1,300 customers, including 682 in downtown Bloomington near West Locust and North Lee Streets, went dark and said restoration time is not yet known. 25 News Now

- ➤ Two brothers from LeRoy were detained in the McLean County Jail (accused of burglarizing a residence). The Pantagraph
- ➤ Research presented on July 25th by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council showed that while statewide arrests for emerging adults are declining, firearm charges are rising—emerging adults account for 30% of arrests despite being 15% of the population, prompting McLean County officials to seek tailored early interventions. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Illinois State University trustees approved a balanced $566 million budget that gives nonunion workers a 3.5% pay raise starting in October. They also approved major renovations to the fine arts complex, refinanced bonds, and named campus facilities after donors — changes that will be monitored as enrollment and budget updates come in. - ➤ McLean County Board Chair Elizabeth Johnston said she supports an audit of the fund for mental health and public safety and does not favor pausing the almost decade-old tax-sharing agreement with Bloomington and Normal. She said the audit may set a shared financial footing and help address questions about the fund’s $20 million balance and the county's future records system costs—points that could guide negotiations moving forward.
