- ➤ Miller Park Zoo announced that its female Mulefoot hog Rain was euthanized Aug. 12 after a full exam revealed severe damage to her bones, tendons and hoof wall — her condition was similar to that of her brother Rupert who died last year. Central Illinois Proud
- ➤ On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, nearly 100 nonprofit professionals gathered at Illinois State University for an annual workshop hosted by the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation focused on coalition efforts amid economic challenges. - ➤ A 35-year-old woman pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced to five years in prison in McLean County. The Pantagraph

- ➤ City crews began Phase 1 of the downtown streetscape project on the 600 block of North Main near the Performing Arts center, where a new plaza with a lighted ring and outdoor activity space is being added. Construction will pause Dec. 1 for winter and resume in spring with extra parking options to ease disruptions—community input helped shape the plan. WGLT
- ➤ A new law (Senate Bill 2040) signed by Gov. Pritzker on August 1 gives the Illinois Commerce Commission the power to impound unregistered trucks and suspend plates for unpaid fines, and it stops tow companies from using police scanners unless officially called; the law will start on January 1st.
