Gov. Pritzker signed a new Illinois law that will require products like dental floss, menstrual products, children’s items and cosmetics to remove forever chemicals by 2032—a move aimed at lowering PFAS exposure linked to cancer and diabetes.
State Sen. Morrison said the law is a first step toward reducing health risks from these chemicals.
Most Bloomington City Council members signed an anti-hate pledge on Monday night—prompted by offensive flyers circulating online that urged a downtown march—and Mayor Dan Brady said he denounces the flyers while two members have yet to sign the commitment.
Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said a June audit found Flock Safety illegally allowed U.S. Customs and Border Protection access to license plate reader cameras on state roads and he has ordered the company to stop sharing the data—he also urged local police to review their agreements with Flock to ensure they comply with the state's Trust Act.
U.S. Rep. Sorensen and AFSCME union members spoke at ISU on Monday to warn that the GOP tax cut and spending plan passed this summer will cut funding for higher education and campus services, which may lower enrollment and lead to layoffs.
Union leaders said the cuts will also hurt vulnerable families by making loans harder to repay plus reducing benefits like SNAP and Medicaid.
