  • Miller Park Zoo unveiled its new sign Thursday morning after years of planning and design—funded in part by a $20,000 gift from the Miller Park Zoological Society, the installation cost about $30,000 and was attended by city officials and zoo staff.  Central Illinois Proud
  • Bloomington's annual Labor Day parade will step off on Monday with the theme 'Union Rights are Civil Rights'—featuring local unions, ISU's Big Red Marching Machine, high school bands, local elected officials and community organizations.  The Pantagraph

  • Ewing Cultural Center extended its 'Stowaway with the Ewings' exhibit through October — a 100th anniversary show — that gives visitors a closer look at Ewing Manor's legacy.  The Pantagraph

  • Mayor Dan Brady urged Bloomington residents to volunteer on Labor Day—he listed local organizations like the Midwest Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity and encouraged sharing volunteer photos on social media with #BloomingtonServes.  Central Illinois Proud
  • At Wednesday's meeting, the Public Safety Community Relations Board heard its first police complaint in two years regarding an alleged battery investigation by the Bloomington Police Department—members postponed further discussion until next month to clarify board procedures. The board's review marks its initial engagement with a complaint in years, underscoring ongoing efforts to ensure police accountability.  WGLT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Illinois State University announced new tailgating rules that will take effect with tomorrow's game, ending tailgating at kickoff instead of 90 minutes after the game — a change meant to give first responders more time to ensure safety.
