COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Humane Society of Central Illinois will host Tails & Tinis: A Cocktail Competition from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 2 in uptown Normal to raise funds for its programs.  The Pantagraph

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Illinois Soybean Association will host a free webinar on grain bin safety for the upcoming harvest season on Tuesday, Sept. 23 from noon — 1 p.m. Ryan Thompson and Rachael Wilson will explain proven safety tips and entry protocols to help farmers and emergency responders reduce risks.  The Pantagraph
  • The Bloomington District 87 Board of Education approved a contract to hire a new technology director starting Oct. 1 — as current director James Peterson retires. The board will also re-evaluate standardized testing to improve student assessments.  The Pantagraph

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Illinois Emergency Management Agency urges Bloomington residents to review and strengthen their disaster preparedness plans as severe weather can strike with little warning—checking insurance coverage and preparing emergency kits can help avoid costly gaps when disaster hits. Acting Director Theodore Berger said that spending a small amount of time now may prevent significant expenses later.  Central Illinois Proud
  • Gov. J.B. Pritzker promoted Illinois as a destination for quantum companies after speaking Thursday at the Quantum World Congress in Virginia—he highlighted the state’s startup accelerator and Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, while Sen. Sue Rezin warned that deals must be carefully negotiated to avoid high taxpayer costs.  Cities 92.9
  • Illinois lawmakers were nearing a consensus on hemp regulation to reduce medical risks and limit minors' access while offering a new revenue source, as House Speaker Chris Welch noted at a town hall in Bloomington on Tuesday. Lawmakers remain divided on how to regulate delta-8—a potent synthetic product—and a bill may pass soon with feedback from surveys, with Gov.
