- ➤ Former salon owner opened Fittingly You in Normal, a bra store offering fittings for every stage of life— the shop aims to provide customers with tailored service. The Pantagraph
- ➤ OPmobility will build its first Illinois facility at Rivian’s Supplier Park in Normal to produce bumpers for Rivian’s R2 truck—supported by REV Illinois with an estimated $3.6 million in tax credits and 81 new full-time jobs. The new facility will boost Rivian's production plans for 2026 and help grow the local EV industry. WJBC
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Local veterans attended the free CreatiVets Intro to Veteran Art course at Heartland Community College on Sept. 16 to explore new art forms and share their stories. The program, funded by nonprofit CreatiVets, covers all costs and provides a supportive space for veterans to express feelings that words cannot fill. The Pantagraph
- ➤ The exhibit at the Vortex Art Studio in downtown Bloomington shows 20 pictures and small dolls that share Mexican heritage, led by artist Yolanda Alonso for Hispanic Heritage Month. The display opens Oct. 3 (by appointment until Nov. 8) to let visitors learn about Latinx traditions. WJBC

- ➤ Presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin will visit Twin City universities on October 6, speaking at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Shirk Center at 7 p.m.—her free lecture includes a Q&A session, and she will lead a master class for ISU students from 2—3 p.m. WGLT
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Central Illinois has seen just one rain event in the past month that has left nearly all of McLean County in moderate drought with a section in severe drought. Officials have banned open burning until next Friday — and the forecast calls for on-and-off rain for the next five days while experts warn that more consistent rain is needed to end the drought. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bloomington and Normal have accused McLean County of defaulting on a decade-old shared sales tax agreement meant to fund mental health and public safety. The notice claims the county mixed funds and spent sales tax money on unauthorized jail staff salaries and technology spending, and it must cure these defaults within a 45-day period. WGLT
- ➤ The Bloomington City Council will meet Monday at 6 p.m. at the Government Center to consider adding a 1% local grocery sales tax to protect $1.5 million in revenue—raising the gambling license cap from 60 to 75 and authorizing a temporary 50% sales tax rebate for downtown businesses affected by streetscape construction.
