  • Illinois Prairie Community Foundation has named Dave Bentlin & Carolyn Yockey as this year's Philanthropists of the Year.  The Pantagraph
  • The annual Woofstock fundraiser brought together families, dogs, and local vendors at a new venue in Kickapoo to raise $30,000 for Stray Animal Midway Shelter—organizer Connie Davis said the funds will support a capital campaign for a new shelter building.  Central Illinois Proud
  • Over 200 people gathered Sunday at Corn Crib stadium in Normal to honor Charlie Kirk, a conservative pundit shot Sept. 10 during a speaking event — local GOP leaders and community members reflected on his legacy of faith and open dialogue.  The Pantagraph

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Symbio Bioculinary in Bloomington used a lab process on Lafayette Park Drive to turn leftover food waste into products like rare sugars and antioxidants — the method may help cut disposal costs for food makers. The company used science to study byproducts that would otherwise be thrown away.  The Pantagraph

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Illinois Wesleyan University was founded in 1850 by local community leaders to expand higher education and has thrived for 175 years; when plans emerged in 1918 to move the school, local supporters raised funds—keeping it in Bloomington.  The Pantagraph

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city council will consider a proposal at its meeting tonight to increase video gaming licenses from 60 to 75, which would let 12 local establishments on the waiting list get a license. City staffers say the proposed change may boost tax revenue and create jobs — spurring economic development in Bloomington.  25 News Now
  • The Bloomington City Council will vote Monday evening on whether to continue a 1% grocery tax that brings in about $3 million a year and prevents a $1.5 million deficit—city officials say the tax will help pay for roads, sidewalks, and other key projects. Purchases made with SNAP and WIC benefits are exempt from the tax.  25 News Now
  • Bloomington warns that downtown streets will close from Sept.21 through 27 for streetscape work and combined sewer separation—Main, McGregor, and Mulberry Streets are affected, so drivers should plan alternate routes.  Central Illinois Proud
  • Turning Point USA students at ISU attended a prayer service at the Corn Crib in Normal on Sunday where hundreds gathered to remember Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist killed while speaking at a Utah college on Sept. 10. The McLean County GOP organized the service—featuring prayers, video clips and speeches—to honor his influence on young voters.  WGLT
