- ➤ Destihl, a craft brewery in Normal, has perfected its brewing process since 2013 using specialty malts and precise brewing steps—founder Matt Potts brings 30 years of experience to a production that now supplies award-winning beers across the country and abroad. WGLT
- ➤ Rader Family Farms announced its Small Business Spotlight Contest rules on September 30 — the contest will air with Blake Haas from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on October 6. WJBC
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Bloomington police arrested Suniti Sud for allegedly voting twice in the November 2024 General Election—voting once by mail in Wisconsin and once in person here after an investigation started in June and a McLean County jury indicted her in late September. 25 News Now
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts was named one of the top theaters in the nation for the third quarter of 2025 based on ticket sales — the 1,166-seat venue ranked just behind Detroit’s Fox Theatre. The center and Grossinger Motors Arena have full fall schedules with the Bloomington Bison starting their second season in October. Central Illinois Proud
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Illinois State University Planetarium will host a free event this weekend in recognition of International Observe the Moon Night — visitors can view the moon and learn about its phases. The Pantagraph
- ➤ District 87 Superintendent David Mouser said CSFT funds will soon support facilities work at BHS, including renovating classrooms for special ed transitions — the funds will also help lower the levy cost. He added that teacher retention is strong and a survey to gauge student interest in adding girls flag football will be conducted shortly. WGLT

- ➤ Bloomington Mayor Dan Brady was elected to the Illinois Municipal League Board of Directors on Sept.20 at the Annual Conference at the Hyatt Regency Chicago—34 vice presidents were also chosen to serve one-year terms. He said he was honored to represent Bloomington and work with state leaders on policies that help cities thrive. WJBC
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Jermy Crespo of Chestnut Family Health Center in Bloomington will host a Spanish presentation on cervical cancer screenings on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 4:45 p.m. to address high mortality rates among Hispanic women — he noted that large gaps in pap smear tests delay necessary care. WGLT
- ➤ The 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place on Saturday, October 4 at Heartland Community College in Normal with in-person registration starting at 8:30 a.m. and the walk beginning at 10 a.m.—participants will choose a two-mile or half-mile route and receive a t-shirt plus a colored flower that reflects their ties to the disease. - ➤ Illinois State men's hoops were selected as the preseason favorite in the MVC— the first time in nearly 25 years. Coach Ryan Pedon said returning players like Chase Walker and Johnny Kinziger will lead the team as they open their season with a scrimmage against the Illini in Champaign on October 19. WJBC
