COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army in Bloomington opened its emergency winter shelter on November 3, offering hot meals, showers, laundry services and individual case management to prevent residents from being left out in the cold — the shelter will operate through mid-March.  WGLT
  • The Salvation Army of McLean County opened its Emergency Winter Shelter Monday in Bloomington to help those facing homelessness with hot meals—showers, laundry, and case management. The shelter remained open through mid-March to provide critical winter support.  WJBC

CULTURE NEWS

  • BN artists will share their creative work in downtown Bloomington during the 25th annual Art Walk. The event highlights local talent—presenting both emerging and seasoned artists in a creative display that fosters community engagement.  The Pantagraph
  • On Oct. 30 at Illinois State University, NPR’s Steve Inskeep explained how public media connects the past to the future during the sold-out 20th anniversary Radio Faces event—NPR CEO Katherine Maher also shared her views on democracy and the resilience of public media. EDUCATION NEWS

  • LeRoy School District 2 is the first in McLean County to work with the Emergency Telephone System Board to produce secure digital school maps that show room numbers, exit doors and safety features — a press conference is being held today at noon at LeRoy Performing Arts Center to explain the new process.  Cities 92.9
  • Stevenson Elementary School has opened an inclusive playground for the Dynamic Learning Program to let all students play together safely, with accessible equipment like ramps, see-saws, rockers and swings (plus braille and vocabulary boards). The playground, dedicated to late student Raymundo Bucio-Flores, was celebrated by local leaders, school staff, students and the Bloomington High School Marching Band.  Central Illinois Proud

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Bloomington City Council, acting as township trustees, approved using $150,000 from general funds to help hundreds of families get SNAP benefits, which could be available today. The program provides households between $200 and $500 per month until funds are exhausted or federal benefits resume — eligibility and income limits apply.  25 News Now
  • The city water department will flush fire hydrants from Nov. 9 to Nov. 16 — residents are urged not to wash clothes from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. as water may appear discolored.  The Pantagraph
